1.3/ Japanese apply Vietnam E-Visa in Thailand 2025

Japanese in Thailand who don’t like to move far away to process visa can choose this option. Japanese can apply Vietnam visa entirely online because Japanese is one of 82 countries’ citizens which are eligible for applying Vietnam E-visa. To get a Vietnam E-visa in Thailand, Japanese have to:

  • Start the online application through Vietnam E-visa application website https://www.vietnamimmigration.com/apply-vietnam-visa/
  • Attach a scanned copy of your Japanese passport as well as a digital picture of yourself
  • Enter all the required information on the online application form
  • Pay the Vietnam e-Visa fee
  • Wait for the visa to be processed (three working days)
  • After visa is approved, it will be sent to Japanese applicant’s email
  • Japanese have to download the PDF file and then print as hard copy

Vietnam E-visa can allow Japanese to fly from Bangkok to Vietnam. Japanese just need to show visa and passport when landing.

However, when Japanese apply Vietnam e Visa, Japanese must specify the entry port. Japanese can only enter the country from the entry port which showed in E-visa approval. Vietnam E-visa for Japanese is valid for a single-entry, and for a maximum of 30 days.

1.4/ Japanese apply Vietnam Visa On Arrival in Thailand 2025

Japanese in Thailand have another option to get Vietnam visa: Getting visa at the airport when arriving.

In fact, Visa on arrival is the visa Japanese will get at Vietnamese airports when they land. However, in order to get this visa, Japanese in Thailand have to apply in advance an approval letter.

If Japanese enter Vietnam through one of Vietnam’s international airports (as listed below), Japanese can get a Vietnam Visa On Arrival:

  • Tan Son Nhat in Ho Chi Minh City
  • Noi Bai International Airport in Hanoi
  • Danang Airport in Da Nang
  • Cat Bi Airport in Hai Phong
  • Cam Ranh Airport in Nha Trang
  • Phu Quoc airport in Phu Quoc island

As mentioned, to be able to get Visa On Arrival in Vietnam, Japanese first have to apply the Approval Letter in Thailand. Japanese can apply this visa approval letter online when they are in Thailand.

Steps to apply visa approval letter for Japanese in Thailand:

  • Access the Vietnam visa application form online https://www.vietnamimmigration.com/apply-vietnam-visa/
  • Enter passport information and the port Japanese will enter through
  • Pay the service fee
  • Wait for the request to be processed (between 2 – 4 working days)
  • Japanese will receive the Vietnam Visa On Arrival Approval Letter by email

A copy of this letter will also be forwarded to the Immigration Officers at the port which Japanese will enter through. Japanese need to print out this approval letter, and prepare for the trip to Vietnam.

Documents needed for Japanese to get visa on arrival at Vietnamese airports:

  • Original passport
  • Printed visa approval letter
  • 2 photos sized 4x6cm in white background
  • Entry and exit form
  • Cash for paying stamp fee

After arrival, Japanese queue up at the Visa On Arrival counters at the airport in Vietnam and submit all documents to get visa stamped on passport. At this step, Japanese need to pay the Vietnam Visa On Arrival fee ($25 for a single-entry visa; $50 for a multiple-entry visa).

Japanese who wish to travel to Vietnam from Bangkok can use all three types of visa above to get Vietnam entry:

  • Japanese with Vietnam visa issued at Vietnamese embassy in Bangkok can fly from Bangkok to Vietnam.
  • Japanese with Vietnam visa issued at Vietnamese consulate in Khonkaen can fly from Bangkok to Vietnam.
  • Japanese with Vietnam E-visa issued online can fly from Bangkok to Vietnam.
  • Japanese with Vietnam visa approval letter can fly from Bangkok to Vietnam, and get visa on arrival at the airport.

3/ What Japanese need to prepare before flying from Bangkok to Vietnam?

Vietnam has lifted all entry restrictions with Covid-19 for all nationalities. Japanese flying from Bangkok to Vietnam only need to prepare original passport which is valid for more than 6 months + a valid Vietnam visa for boarding the airplane.

Entry requirements for Japanese flying from Thailand to Vietnam:

  • Japanese are not required to show Covid-19 vaccination certificate when flying from Thailand to Vietnam
  • Japanese are not required to show Covid-19 negative test when flying from Thailand to Vietnam
  • Japanese are not required to show Covid-19 insurance when flying from Thailand to Vietnam
  • Japanese are not required to show Covid-19 health declaration when flying from Thailand to Vietnam
