To be able to enter another country for various purposes such as travel, work or other purposes, the visa is one of the necessary documents that you need to prepare. If you are planning to enter Vietnam for personal needs, here are the things that you need to pay attention to so that you can choose the most suitable visa option.
The visa can be interpreted as a document given by the competent authority of a country to foreigners, allowing them to enter that country at a fixed time. For example, an Arab who wants to travel to Vietnam for tourism or business purposes must submit an application for approval to enter from the Vietnamese competent authority. If you get approval for this entry, when going to the Vietnamese entry gate, the Immigration officials will check and paste the legal entry visa to enter Vietnam.
Like most other countries in the world, there are three main types of visas in Vietnam, as follows:
Tourist visa: It is a form of visa granted to tourists who come to Vietnam for tourism purposes. This is the most common form of visa that foreigners often choose when they need to come to Vietnam.
Business visa: It is a form of visa used for visitors to Vietnam for the purpose of searching the market, working, doing business, and supporting business, etc. With this form of visa, foreign guests will be guaranteed by Vietnamese companies and request approval to enter Vietnam.
Visa exemption: This form applies to citizens of some countries who enter Vietnam during a specific period of time without submitting any visa application and also paying fees related to entry and exit Vietnam.
Vietnam is currently conducting visa exemption with some of the following countries (see table below).
Nationality | visa exemption period
|
United Kingdom, France, Italy, Spain, Germany, Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Russia, Finland, Belarus, Japan, Korea.
|
15 days (between twice entry visa waiver needs at least 30 days gap) |
Myanmar, Brunei | 14 days |
Philippines | 21 days |
Cambodia, Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia, Laos, Kyrgyzstan
|
30 days |
Chile | 90 days |
Additionally, in the following two entry situations, foreigners from all countries are also exempt from the visa:
The visa that enters Vietnam has a period of no less than one month and can be up to one year, depending on the type of visa you choose. There are currently three ways for foreign visitors to apply for an entry visa to Vietnam: apply for a visa through the Vietnamese embassy or consulate in the host country, an electronic visa (evisa) and a visa on arrival.
This type applies only to citizens of countries where Vietnam has its official diplomatic office. To apply for a Vietnamese visa directly from the Vietnamese embassy or consulate in your country, you need to prepare the following documents for submission and awaiting approval.
– The passport (valid for at least 6 months, at least has 2 blank pages).
– Vietnam visa application form (this form can be downloaded directly online, then you need to fill out the form and sign up. If you cannot download this form, you can also go directly to Vietnamese embassy or consulate in your country to obtain the form and fill it out directly).
– 02 photos with a white background, size of 2×2 inches (without glasses and without hat).
– A copy of the papers proving the purpose of entry into Vietnam
After completing the above documents, you must pay the visa application fee directly at the Vietnamese embassy or consulate in accordance with the regulations. Note that most of these fees can be paid directly in cash or via credit / debit / Mastercard, depending on location. Some places provide passport and visa return service by post office, and you will be charged for the cost of sending. For the type of visa application directly through the Vietnamese embassy and consulate, you will usually be able to obtain the visa after 5 to 7 working days, depending on the status of your application.
In recent years, the electronic visa has become a new trend to simplify entry to countries and has received support, especially for foreign tourists. Easily understanding, the electronic visa is an electronic document which is applied and received online, and allow the applicant to enter the country. With this type, you can get visa anywhere as long as you have the internet. You just need to get a visa directly on your computer, print it, and enter the entry gate.
Vietnam has now begun to implement electronic visa forms for tourists and businessmen. The e-Visa information page for foreigners in Vietnam was officially operated on February 1, 2017.
For the type of e-visa, the Immigration Department can issue visas for foreign visitors to enter Vietnam only single time for a period not exceeding 30 days, but it should be noted that this type applies only to 80 countries and two special economic regions (Hong Kong and Macao). You can check the list of countries that apply this electronic visa on the site:
https://www.vietnamimmigration.com/vietnam-evisa/which-countries-are-eligible-for-vietnam-e-visa/
If your country is on this list, you can continue to apply for e-visa through the following steps:
– Access the e-Visa information website at https://www.vietnamimmigration.com/apply-vietnam-visa/
Fill out the required information and upload the photo and passport according to the instructions on the page. After entering this information, you click next to continue the Vietnam visa application.
– Pay the electronic visa application fee in accordance with the regulations (this fee is paid by Visa or Master Card and it is worth noting that this fee will be full refunded even if your visa is rejected).
The time required to obtain the evisa is 2 working days, after this time limit, if you do not receive an electronic visa, this means that your case cannot be granted a visa by the Vietnamese government in this type. The visa file will be sent to your e-mail. In addition, you can also check results by using the electronic visa code and access the Immigration Department’s electronic visa information page.
– When you come to Vietnam, you only need to print the electronic visa with your passport and show it to the immigration officials at the immigration entry gate.
Visa on arrival is the popular visa application type for foreigners entering Vietnam. Visa on arrival is a type of visa received at the airports in Vietnam, and this is the perfect choice for those who have the Vietnamese embassy or consulate in the country far away from the region in which they live, or need an urgent visa due to lack of time to make visas as usual. In addition, the advantage of this type of visa is that it applies to citizens of all countries with different staying duration that range from one month to 3 months and 6 months to one year. Moreover, you can apply for this visa once or multiple times. It is worth noting that this method requires you to apply for a visa through representative companies (usually travel companies). With this type, you can get a visa quickly and the procedure is simpler than obtaining at the embassy because there is no travel cost.
The procedures for submitting a visa upon arrival include the following specific steps:
– Fill out the online visa application form (this form will be submitted by the travel agency directly, your task is to provide information that includes the first and last name, gender, date of birth, nationality and passport number).
– In some special cases, you may have to provide additional relevant documents such as confirming hotel reservations, airline tickets and passport copies.
Pay the service fee for the visa approval letter (this fee depends on the country and the specific application status).
– After two working days (it may be faster, for example in an hour to one day, but you have to pay an additional fee), you will receive the visa approval letter by email, your task is to print this letter and present it with the passport at international airports in Vietnam to obtain a visa on your passport (Pay $ 25 for single entry and $ 50 for multiple entry directly to customs at the airport to receive the visa on arrival).
Visa on arrival is an option for many tourists when coming to Vietnam now because it is more comfortable and faster. So you have to consider the three types of this visa to choose for yourself the most appropriate type.
