Due to recent COVID-19 outbreak, Vietnam has imposed several travel restrictions on those entering the country. As a result, Vietnam visa application is now more difficult and complicated. Those who want to come to Vietnam must have a valid visa, and follow the entry requirements of Ministry of Health. What are the requirements to apply Vietnam visa for foreigners in Covid-19 period? Can you apply Vietnam visa if you have Covid-19 immunity passport?
Due to Covid-19 pandemic, Vietnam has suspended the entry of all foreigners since March 22, 2020. At the end of 2020, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc approved to grant visa again for foreign businessmen, investors, experts, and skilled workers who come for working purpose. These eligible subjects need to have a sponsor company in Vietnam to guarantee the business trip, and fill out all necessary forms to submit at provincial People’s Committee and Immigration to get entry permit.
The whole procedure may take 30 – 40 days from the submission date, and the applicants can get visa sticker at international airports when arriving.
Until now, tourist visa is still suspended. Foreign tourists cannot apply tourist visa to enter Vietnam now. However, as the fact that Vietnam started to get vaccinated for the citizens from February 2021, it’s expected that tourist visa will be soon re-approved.
In order to get entry permit to Vietnam in the pandemic period, negative Covid-19 testing is required. All people coming to Vietnam in this period must to get Covid-19 test 3 days before arrival date. From the end of 2021, some other equivalent documents can replace the Covid-19 testing to prove the visitors is not infected with Coronavirus.
Immunity passport (or vaccine passport, or vaccination certificate) will be required when entering Vietnam at the end of 2021 and 2022. All people entering Vietnam must show the certificate to prove that they already got vaccinated.
Please note that, A quarantine might be required depending on Covid-19 situation in the world, even the visitors got vaccinated. In pandemic period, all Governments are acting carefully with entry procedures.
In brief, if you already had immunity passport or vaccination certificate, you can apply Vietnam visa and submit for entry permit. However, please note that even you have immunity certificate, you still can be quarantined after entering Vietnam. Depending on Covid-19 situation, the Government will have different requirements on entry of the foreigners at different time, and you must comply with them.
