Hong Kong passport holders or foreigners from Hong Kong now can book air ticket, quarantine hotel and apply visa to come to Vietnam during Covid-19 period. The procedure can be longer and more complicated than before but it’s still possible to visit Vietnam from Hong Kong.
As we know, Vietnam visa was temporarily suspended due to pandemic in March 2020. At that time, all nationalities cannot apply Vietnam visa, even visa at the embassy/consulate, visa on arrival or electronic visa. Vietnam government tried to protect the citizens first, and they closed the borders to control virus corona.
However, Vietnam government is opening the borders step by step. With the aim to develop the economic as well as control the epidemic, Vietnam government now issue again visa for businessmen, high-tech workers, managers, experts, etc. Those who come to Vietnam for business purpose can apply Vietnam business visa and book quarantine services for isolation requirement after entry.
Hong Kong citizens and other nationalities from Hong Kong can apply Vietnam visa online with support of sponsor company in Vietnam. This company will issue invitation letter, sign some related form for the applicant.
The procedure is more complicated than before and it requires a lot of steps. The applicant must provide some required documents to apply entry permit from the local provincial people committee, and then apply Vietnam visa approval letter from immigration department. It’s also required to book quarantine hotel and quarantine services before coming to Vietnam.

There is many quarantine hotels in Vietnam, mostly in Ha Noi and Ho Chi Minh city. Visitors from Hong Kong can choose hotel from standard service to high-class service for 15 days quarantine in Vietnam.
You only can book quarantine service after you get approval for visa application. The quarantine hotel can be fully booked in this period, so getting visa approval soon will help you to choose many hotel options later. Quarantine hotel provides 3 meals during isolation period, and provide free wifi, so you still can work when you are in the hotel.
Before applying Vietnam visa and quarantine service, you must check with airlines to make sure there are available route from Hong Kong to Vietnam. Cathay Pacific is currently running flights from Hong Kong airport to Tan Son Nhat airport (SGN) by CX799, and you can reserve the seat until you get approval of entry. After entering Ho Chi Minh city and finishing quarantine procedure, you can come to other cities/provinces to do the business.
The procedure to apply Vietnam visa during pandemic period is more complicated than before. It requires more documents and it takes longer to get approved, so you should apply visa at least 35 days before entry date.
