Vietnamese government has agreed to restore the visa-free policy for some countries to attract international tourists back to Vietnam from March 15, 2022.
Vietnamese government has officially resumed immigration procedures for foreigners and overseas Vietnamese as before Covid-19 pandemic. Accordingly, the regulations on visa exemption are also restored.
Specifically, Vietnamese government has issued a resolution on visa exemption for citizens of the following countries: Germany, France, Italy, Spain, UK, Russia, Japan, South Korea, Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Finland, Belarus. These are the countries that have been unilaterally exempted from visas by Vietnam since the end of 2019.
Citizens of the above countries are allowed to enter Vietnam without visa for staying less than 15 days, regardless of passport type and entry purpose. This policy is implemented from March 15, 2022 to March 14, 2025 and will be considered for extension in accordance with Vietnamese law.
Before the outbreak, Vietnam exempted visas unilaterally for 13 countries and bilaterally for 88 countries and territories. However, from 2020, Vietnam Government has stopped implementing this policy to prevent the Covid-19 epidemic.
From March 15, Vietnam also started to open tourism to international visitors. The entry policies are simplified, visitors do not need to be isolated when coming to Vietnam, the visa policy is restored to the way it was before the pandemic. These are expected to help Vietnam’s tourism recover after 2 years of closure.
