Vietnam Offers Another Automatic Visa Extension Until End of September 2020

Vietnam’s Immigration Department just announced another automatic visa extension until September 30^th for foreigners who are getting stuck in the country due to the pandemic.

Notice “Automatic extension of temporary residence for foreigners” in Vietnam:

1. Foreign citizens who enter on a visa-free basis or enter with an e-visa or tourist visa from March 1, 2020, shall continue to be “automatically extended temporary residence” until the end of September (September 30^th, 2020), can exit during the above time without having to go through the procedure to extend temporary residence. In case of entering before March 1, 2020, if it is proved that he was stuck due to the Covid-19 pandemic, certified by the diplomatic mission by a Note (with a Vietnamese translation) or certified in writing of Vietnamese competent authorities about being quarantined, Covid-19 treatment or other force majeure … are also considered to apply “automatic temporary extension” until September 30, 2020 and must present the above note or confirmation document upon exit.
2. Foreign citizens, during the period of “automatic extension of temporary residence”, must make a temporary residence declaration and medical declaration according to regulations.
3. Foreign citizens who are not subject to the provisions of Section 1 of this Notice or commit other law violations, shall comply with the current provisions of Vietnamese law./.

This update is officially announced on Vietnamese immigration department website on September 1^st 2020.

For those who entered Vietnam before 1^st March or are not in the list to get automatic extension, they must apply visa extension or visa renewal before the expiry date.
