The Government of Vietnam has just approved the Lunar New Year holiday plan for 2020. Accordingly, civil servants and officials will take the Lunar New Year holiday from Thursday (January 23, 2020) to the end of Wednesday (January 29, 2020), means from December 29, Lunar Year to the end of January 5, Lunar Year.
The employee is entitled to 5 days off according to the Labor Law, but due to two extra weekends (because the 1st and 2nd of the Lunar New Year day are on Saturday and Sunday), the total number of days off for the Lunar New Year 2020 is 7 days.
During 7 days of New Year, Vietnamese embassies and consulates in all countries will take a leave. The government’s electronic visa system will also not work during this time. Travelers wishing to visit Vietnam must go through online travel service to apply for an emergency visa.
Vietnamese embassies and consulates, evisa system are all closed on Tet holiday
The emergency visa service during the Lunar New Year still works, however the cost of applying for a visa will be higher than usual. You have to pay an additional $ 120 for emergency expenses, so if you plan to come to Vietnam, you should apply for a visa at least 10 days before Tet holiday.
The procedure for applying for an emergency visa on Lunar New Year is not too complicated. You only need to go to the visa service website to fill in the online emergency visa form, choose the type of visa you want to apply, and provide flight information. Depending on the service you choose, you may receive a visa within 4 working hours or 8 working hours.
Note: Although the offices issuing visas are off on Tet holiday, the visa on arrival at the airport is still available 24/7. You can enter at any time once you have obtained the visa approval.
