After 2 years of closure, Vietnam government has decided to open the border and welcome international tourist back to Vietnam. E-visa system has been resumed and Japanese can apply electronic visa to enter Vietnam from March 15th 2022.
Vietnam E-visa (or electronic visa) is type of visa online. This visa is valid for 30 days with single entry. The applicants do not need to go anywhere to submit visa documents, just visit the visa application form to submit.
Vietnam E-visa is temporarily suspended from March 2020 due to pandemic outbreak. At that time, Japanese cannot apply e-visa. But after nearly 2 years, when Covid-19 is well controlled in Vietnam, Vietnamese government decided to open e-visa system and accept visa application again.

Japanese passport holders are allowed to get Vietnam e-visa again from March 2022. All you need to do is preparing the required documents and submit the visa application form.

Documents to apply Vietnam e-visa for Japanese 2022
In order to obtain Vietnam e-visa, Japanese applicants must prepare these two documents:
After having these documents, you need to access Vietnam E-visa application form https://www.vietnamimmigration.com/apply-vietnam-visa/ , fill out the necessary information, attach passport and photo, then submit the visa application.
Vietnam e-visa is totally applied online, and Japanese can get visa result after 2 working days. After processing day, an e-visa PDF file will be sent to the email registered in application form. Japanese applicants must recheck the information inside to make sure all information is correct.
It’s recommended to print out the e-visa. At the time of entry, Japanese must show e-visa and original passport to enter Vietnam.
Vietnam has lifted the travel restrictions for all international visitors from March 15th, 2022. As such, Japanese can now enter Vietnam without quarantine.
From March 2022, Japanese do not need to take quarantine after entry Vietnam. However, Japanese citizens must follow the entry requirements of Vietnam Immigration:
For Japanese entering by air: Must have negative test results for SARS-CoV-2 (except for children under 2 years old) within 72 hours before departure if using RT-PCR / RT-LAMP method or within 24 hours if using rapid antigen test method and certified by the competent authority of the country performing the test.
For Japanese entering through land border, seaport: Must have Covid-19 test the same as people entering by air. In case the Covid-19 test has not been taken yet, the test must be performed within the first 24 hours (by RT-PCR/RT-LAMP method or by rapid antigen test method since entry. If the test result is negative, visitor is allowed to leave the accommodation and still have to take preventive measures against the epidemic according to regulations. If the test result is positive, it must be reported immediately to the local health authority for instructions.
Children under 2 years old: are not required to be tested for SARS-CoV-2, have not been vaccinated against COVID-19 or have never been infected with SARS-CoV-2 are also allowed to enter with parents and relatives.
Japanese must make a medical declaration before entry (tokhaiyte.vn) and use the Medical Declaration Application (PC-COVID), taking measures to prevent and control the epidemic as prescribed during their stay in Vietnam.
At the border gate, if Japanese tourists have symptoms of SARS-CoV-2 infection (fever; cough; sore throat; runny nose, stuffy nose; body aches, fatigue, chills; decrease or loss of taste; decrease or loss of sense of smell; pain; headache; diarrhea; difficulty breathing; respiratory infection, etc.) , they should immediately notify the health agency at the border gate for medical measures as prescribed.
Japanese must have medical insurance or travel insurance that covers COVID-19 treatment with a minimum of USD 10,000.
Within 10 days from the entry date, Japanese will self-monitor their health, if there are symptoms of SARS-CoV-2 infection (fever; cough; sore throat; runny nose, stuffy nose; body aches, fatigue, chills; decrease or loss of taste; decrease or loss of sense of smell; pain; headache; diarrhea; difficulty breathing; respiratory infection, etc.) must immediately notify the nearest medical facility in order to get guidance, management, implementation of disease prevention measures, regularly wearing masks, washing hands.
Japanese must ensure the conditions on exit and entry according to Vietnam’s immigration laws and other relevant regulations when traveling in Vietnam.
In conclusion, Vietnam already issued E-visa again for Japanese passport. If you hold Japanese passport, you can visit online application form and submit visa request.
